Do You Put Wood Flooring Up To Fireplace

Do you put wood flooring up to fireplace. I m wondering if i can put wood vinyl plank in front of the fireplace 4 x6 area. It can be at a 10 to 15 degree pitch with the high side of the pitch being next to the hearth. Installing hardwood moldings around fireplace hearths has never been an attractive solution for covering up those gaps. It is easier to do if it is a new install than cutting into existing flooring.
